A 90-Day Review: A Simple Practice to Adjust Your Leadership with Intention

By Coach Virginie

We often move from one week to the next without truly pausing. Projects move forward, decisions accumulate, challenges unfold… and without a conscious moment to step back, it becomes difficult to extract meaningful learning from what we experience.

Yet in leadership, it’s not experience alone that drives growth — it’s our ability to make sense of it.

Taking time every 90 days to reflect is a simple, yet deeply transformative practice. It allows us to step out of autopilot, gain perspective, and most importantly, adjust our actions with greater clarity and intention.

Why a 90-Day Review?

Three months is an ideal rhythm:

  • long enough to observe patterns

  • short enough to adjust quickly

This type of reflection helps you:
✔️ recognize what is working
✔️ understand what is holding you back
✔️ make more intentional choices moving forward

It’s a core leadership skill: to learn, adjust… and move forward differently.

The 90-Day Method (3 Steps)

Here is a simple framework you can use at the end of each quarter.

1. Acknowledge What Worked

Question to ask yourself: What worked best for me over the past 90 days?

Take time to identify:

  • your wins (even the small ones)

  • the habits or practices that supported you

  • the decisions or leadership behaviors that had a positive impact

Goal: reinforce what you want to continue.

2. Learn from What Was More Challenging

Question to ask yourself: What felt more difficult — and what did it teach me?

Instead of avoiding these areas, explore them:

  • What felt uncomfortable?

  • What does it reveal?

  • What might I need to adjust?

Goal: turn experience into learning.

3. Choose What to Evolve

Question to ask yourself: What do I choose to adjust for the next 90 days?

Keep it simple:

  • choose one or two focus areas at most

  • identify a concrete first step

Goal: move from reflection to action.

How to Use This Method

  • Block 20–30 minutes in your calendar - Be proactive and make it a priority on a quarterly basis.

  • Create a distraction-free space

  • Write your answers down (this is key)

👉 This is not a performance exercise — it’s a moment of strategic clarity.

In brief…

A 90-day review is not about adding another task to your list. It’s about creating space to slow down, reflect, and move forward with greater intention.

Because ultimately, leadership doesn’t grow through accumulation… but through our ability to integrate, adjust, and consciously choose what comes next.
